FOSTERING ONLINE RELATIONSHIPS: BUILDING CONNECTIONS IN A DIGITAL WORLD

Written by: Jamie Marcella

In an online learning environment, meaningful relationships can flourish just as they do in traditional classrooms. At CMASAS, we believe that fostering strong connections between students, teachers, and peers is essential to a successful and enriching educational experience. But how do we cultivate these relationships in an online setting?

Our recent Winter Assembly was a perfect example of how students and staff can come together to build community, celebrate achievements, and strengthen bonds—no matter where they are in the world! Watch the full event here to see firsthand how our students were empowered by guest speaker, Al Quattrocchi’s presentation and also had a wonderful opportunity to interact with one another and create connections.

The Power of Connection

One of the biggest misconceptions about online learning is that students may feel isolated. At CMASAS, we prioritize personalized education and community-building opportunities to ensure every student feels supported and connected. Through clubs, assemblies, discussion forums, and personalized check-ins with PECs, students can engage with peers and mentors in meaningful ways. Events like these provide students with:

  • A sense of belonging in their academic journey
  • Opportunities to meet new friends and connect with like-minded peers
  • Moments to interact with teachers and staff in a fun, engaging setting
  • A platform to showcase talents, achievements, and creativity

How to Foster Strong Relationships in an Online Setting

If you’re looking to build stronger connections within our CMASAS community, here are a few tips:

  • Join a club or extracurricular activity – Find a group that matches your interests and start engaging with fellow students. Check out some of our newest clubs:
    • Classical Contrivances Club – Love classical style, music, and culture? In this club, we'll explore timeless fashion, music, architecture, and more—whether it's classical men's or women's clothing, vintage lifestyles, or iconic trends from the past. If you're into all things classic, this club is for you! (Grades 6-12, meets 2nd and 4th Fridays at 9:00 am PST, moderated by Josi Hinkle)
    • Student Ambassador Club – This club fosters a supportive and engaged school community. You will guide new students, promote our school, and support our Personalized Education Foundation through different initiatives. You will also organize meaningful community service projects. (Grades 6-12)
  • Attend live events and assemblies – These gatherings are fantastic ways to meet others and participate in fun discussions.
  • Engage in discussions and group projects such as the Daily Question of the Day in Teams – Collaboration fosters friendships and enhances learning.
  • Reach out to your PEC or teachers – They’re here to support you and help you navigate your educational journey.
  • Be active in the student community – Whether through social media, student forums, or virtual hangouts, staying engaged helps build connections.

Our CMASAS community is continuously growing, and we are committed to creating an environment where everyone feels valued, heard, and connected. If you missed the Winter Assembly, be sure to check it out here and keep an eye out for upcoming events where you can meet new friends and strengthen your online relationships!
