PRACTICING GRATITUDE

Written by: April Sandoval

I often end my day by journaling positive thoughts, reflecting on moments that made me smile. As we approach the holidays, I see November as a time for both connection and reflection. Reflection helps us appreciate our experiences, while connection reminds us of the support and inspiration we gain from others. Together, these lead us to gratitude—the appreciation of the people and moments that enrich our lives.

I feel most grateful when I am connected to friends and family and reflecting on the many wonderful things in my life. Here at CMASAS, we share the same family mentality. We support each other, celebrate our successes, and grow together. Working toward shared goals, we learn respect, patience, and care for one another. Through developing critical thinking, we gain the ability to listen to and appreciate each other’s perspectives. Each small act of generosity and kindness strengthens our bonds, creating a community where everyone feels valued.

This November for our Gratitude Challenge, we are encouraging students to help fundraise for the Personalized Education Foundation’s scholarship fund, with CMASAS matching up to $1,000. I encourage each of you to join in this fundraiser, thinking about the people and experiences that fill us with gratitude.

Here are a few simple fundraising ideas—or maybe you have your own!

Bake Sale: Sell homemade cookies, brownies, or cupcakes at a community event.
Handmade Crafts: Make and sell items like bracelets, keychains, or holiday ornaments to family, friends, or neighbors.
Chores for Donations: Offer to help with household tasks like raking leaves or washing cars in exchange for donations.
Mini Game Tournament: Host a game night with friends, charging a small entry fee. Games could be video or board games, with small prizes for winners.
Social Media Campaign: Share your fundraising goal online and encourage friends and family to donate.
Garage or Book Sale: Sell gently used items or books to raise funds.

Let’s come together and make this fundraiser a success. Every contribution, big or small, will make a difference!
