Intermediate Design is a student-driven, project-based course that builds on the foundational skills developed in Beginning Design, challenging students to apply design concepts with increased sophistication and personal expression. As in the previous course, students work closely with their instructor to select and plan original, personalized projects that further develop proficiency in designated course competencies. Projects involve applying the elements and principles of design to a variety of visual communication contexts and may incorporate one or multiple media forms. Possible areas of focus include graphic, fashion, product, packaging, interior, architectural, publication, culinary, and photographic design. Students should expect to complete approximately 90 hours of work, culminating in a final synthesis portfolio that demonstrates their growth and creative development. Depending on project choices and student interests, the purchase of some art materials may be needed.
