Beginning Digital Photography is a student-driven, project-based course that introduces students to essential camera handling skills and foundational design principles such as composition and lighting. Through guided planning with their instructor, students select and complete original projects that demonstrate proficiency in designated course competencies. A key goal of the course is for students to develop the ability to photograph a wide range of subjects in varying lighting conditions and at different distances. While course completion is based on demonstrated mastery of all competencies, students typically spend approximately 90 hours on coursework. Individual completion time may vary depending on prior experience, skill level, and personal goals. The course culminates in a final synthesis portfolio that showcases each student’s growth, technical skills, and creative development. This course serves as a foundation for continued study in Intermediate and Advanced Digital Photography.
