Portfolio Electives

Content

Overview

Portfolio electives are open-ended courses that allow students to earn credit based on documented hours spent participating in a particular activity. In addition to logging their hours, students design, plan, and complete a project related to the topic of the course and their participation in the activity.

These courses are an excellent option for students who are consistently involved in extracurricular activities that align with a portfolio subject area. They provide a way for students to earn required elective credit through meaningful learning experiences that take place outside of the CMASAS curriculum.

Personalized Portfolio Electives

Personalized Portfolio electives offer even greater flexibility than the pre-established Portfolio electives listed below. Rather than fitting a student's activities into an existing course, these electives allow us to create a course that more accurately reflects a student's unique extracurricular pursuits.

This is an excellent option for students whose activities are not already represented by a course in the catalog. It allows us to create highly personalized, detailed elective courses that capture a student's interests, passions, and accomplishments in a meaningful way on their transcript.

It is important to note that all Personalized Portfolio courses are awarded as elective credit, even when the activity closely aligns with a core academic subject. They do not satisfy core graduation requirements. Discuss the Personalized Portfolio option with your PEC to determine if it's the right fit for your goals and circumstances.
